taiwan (part 1)

what i saw/learned while in the countryside:

- the tap water is shitty. so shitty that people have to resort to buying water from stations that dispense solely water. imagine a petrol station, only it dispenses water
- they care a lot about recycling but don't seem to give a fuck about contaminating their rivers
- by right they're supposed to drive on the right side of the road. all sides seem to be the right side though
- life is cheap. very cheap
- there are too many dogs. it seems mandatory for each household to have no less than 2 dogs and the dogs are allowed to roam freely
- the dogs are all bark and no bite. most of the time they just bark too much
- the area is fucking hilly/mountainous
- the temperature is either very cold or very hot
- the food vendors are ninjas, only they don't kill or wear black
- the ninjas ride scooters and pop out from nowhere when you need them the most. kind of like fairy-godmothers
- milk tea (nai cha? is that how its spelled?) never tasted so good
- the villagers <3 soldiers. most of them at least. the others will mock you or just threaten to steal your rifle
- i lasted 7 days without showering
- i lasted 5 days without maintaining oral hygiene
- according to my platoon sergeant, the weather can be hot and cold at the same time. hot as in the temperature and cold/chilly winds. yes, wtf
- the above mentioned point turned out to be true
- i saw a cripple speeding on his motorized wheelchair. what made it so funny was that the wheelchair was ironically branded "karma"
